Memorial Hall for Choi Yong-sin, an independence activist who dedicated her life to the farm enlightenment campaign
The Choi Yong-sin Memorial Hall was established where the ‘Saemgol School’ was placed in order to commemorate the spirit of Choi Yong-sin (1909~1935), who dedicated her life to the farm enlightenment campaign. Launched on November 2007, the Memorial Hall has an area of 462.8㎡ over one above-ground and one underground floor. The exhibition hall was built with a donation made by Hong Seok-pil, a student of Ms. Choi, out of his respect for his teacher.
The exhibition hall features the ‘Saemgol School’ in miniature and the school song, which was found after some difficulties (Lyrics by Choi Yong-sin/1934). Visitors can watch the movie Sangnoksu and interviews with her acquaintances at the video room. The relics displayed include the Order of Merit for National Foundation won by Choi Yong-sin and the first edition of Sangnoksu (1936), Korean language books, and bibles from that time. The memorial hall also features a video search stand with video essays, interviews with some of her students that are still alive, and the movie Sangnoksu to express her spirit in various ways.
The Memorial Hall constantly develops experience and education programs to continue her spirit of patriotism and enlightenment, and collects related materials to use for exhibitions, research, and education.
